God Speaks through Jeremiah about the Philistines
47 This is the Word of the Lord which came to Jeremiah the man of God about the Philistines, before Pharaoh won the war against Gaza. 2 The Lord says, “Waters are going to rise from the north and become a flood. They will flow over the land and everything in it, the cities and all who live in them. The men will cry out. Every person living in the land will cry in a loud voice. 3 Because of the noise of the feet of horses running, the noise of war-wagons and the sound of wheels, fathers have not turned back for their children. Their hands have become too weak, 4 because of the day that is coming to destroy all the Philistines. And all those who helped Tyre and Sidon will be destroyed. For the Lord is going to destroy the Philistines, those who are left of the land of Caphtor by the sea. 5 All the hair is gone from the head of Gaza. Ashkelon has been destroyed. O you who are left of their valley, how long will you cut yourselves? 6 O, sword of the Lord, how long will it be before you are quiet? Return to your holder. Be at rest and do not move. 7 How can it be quiet, when the Lord has given it work to do? He has sent it against Ashkelon and against the land by the sea.”
Moab Is Destroyed
48 About Moab, the Lord of All, the God of Israel, says, “It is bad for Nebo, for it has been destroyed. Kiriathaim has been put to shame and taken. The high, strong-place has been put to shame and crushed. 2 The praise for Moab has come to an end. In Heshbon they have planned trouble against her, saying, ‘Come, let us destroy her from being a nation!’ You, O Madmen, will be made quiet also. The sword will follow you. 3 Listen, the sound of a cry from Horonaim, saying, ‘Laid waste and all destroyed!’ 4 Moab is destroyed. The cry of her little ones is heard. 5 They go up the hill of Luhith crying all the time. For at the hill of Horonaim they have heard the troubled cry of those who are being destroyed. 6 Run fast! Run for your lives! You will be like a bush in the desert. 7 Because you have trusted in your own works and riches, you also will be taken. And Chemosh will go away to a strange land together with his religious leaders and important men. 8 The destroyer will come to every city. No city will be free from him. The valley and the plain will be destroyed also, as the Lord has said. 9 Give wings to Moab, for she will fly away. Her cities will become a waste, with no people living in them. 10 The one who does the Lord’s work without care is cursed. Cursed is the one who keeps his sword from blood.
11 “Moab has been at rest since he was young. He has been like wine which sits a long time, not being poured from jar to jar. He has not gone away to a strange land. So he keeps his taste, and his smell is not changed. 12 The days are coming,” says the Lord, “when I will send to him those who turn over jars, and they will turn him over. They will empty his jars and break them in pieces. 13 Then Moab will be ashamed of Chemosh, as the house of Israel was ashamed of Bethel that they trusted. 14 How can you say, ‘We are strong soldiers and powerful men of war’? 15 Moab has been destroyed, and men have gone up to his cities. His best young men have gone down to be killed,” says the King, Whose name is the Lord of All. 16 The trouble of Moab will soon come. His suffering comes in a hurry. 17 Have sorrow for him, all you who live around him, and all who know his name. Say, ‘How his power has been broken, the greatness of his power!’ 18 Come down from your greatness and sit on the hot ground, O you who live in Dibon. For the destroyer of Moab has come up against you. He has destroyed your strong-places built for battle. 19 Stand by the road and keep watch, O you who live in Aroer. Ask the man or woman who runs away, ‘What has happened?’ 20 Moab has been put to shame, for it is broken down. Cry out. Let it be known by the Arnon that Moab has been destroyed. 21 Punishment has come upon the plain, against Holon, Jahzah, Mephaath, 22 Dibon, Nebo, Beth-diblathaim, 23 Kiriathaim, Beth-gamul, Beth-meon, 24 Kerioth, Bozrah, and all the cities of the land of Moab, far and near. 25 Moab’s strength has been cut off, and his arm broken,” says the Lord. 26 “Make him drunk, for he has become proud before the Lord. So Moab will roll in the food he has thrown up, and be laughed at. 27 Did you not laugh at Israel? Or was he found among robbers? For each time you speak about him you laugh and shake your head. 28 Leave the cities and live among the rocks, O people of Moab. Be like a dove that has its nest in a hole in the side of the rock. 29 We have heard of the pride of Moab. He is very proud. We have heard of all his pride and how he honors himself. 30 I know his anger,” says the Lord, “but it is of no use. His proud words have done nothing. 31 So I will cry in a loud voice for Moab. I will cry out for all Moab. I will have sorrow for the men of Kir-heres. 32 I will cry for you more than for Jazer, O vine of Sibmah! Your branches have gone over the sea, even to the sea of Jazer. The destroyer has fallen upon your summer fruits and your grapes. 33 Happiness and joy have been taken away from the land of Moab with all its fruit. I have stopped the crushing of the grapes to make wine. No one crushes them under foot. The noise they make is not the sound of joy. 34 They cry out from Heshbon even to Elealeh, even to Jahaz, and from Zoar even to Horonaim and to Eglath-shelishiyah. Even the waters of Nimrim have become a waste. 35 And I will make an end of Moab,” says the Lord. “I will destroy the one who gives gifts of worship on the high place and burns special perfume to his gods.
36 “So My heart cries out for Moab like a horn. My heart cries like a horn also for the men of Kir-heres. The riches they had for themselves have been lost. 37 The hair has been cut from every head, and the hair has been cut short on every face. There are cuts on all the hands, and they wear clothes made from hair. 38 On all the roofs of Moab and in its streets there are cries of sorrow everywhere. For I have broken Moab like a pot that is not wanted,” says the Lord. 39 “How broken it is! How they cry! How Moab has turned his back in shame! So Moab has become something to laugh at and hate to all those around him.” 40 For the Lord says, “One will fly fast like an eagle, and spread out his wings against Moab. 41 Kerieth has been taken, and the strong-places built for battle have been taken. In that day the hearts of the strong men of Moab will be like the heart of a woman giving birth. 42 Moab will be destroyed and will no longer be a nation, because he was proud before the Lord. 43 Fear, traps and nets are coming upon you, O you who live in Moab,” says the Lord. 44 “The one who runs from trouble will fall into the trap. And the one who comes up out of the trap will be caught in the net. For I will bring these things upon Moab in the year of their punishment,” says the Lord.
45 “In the shadow of Heshbon, those who have run for their lives stand without strength. For a fire has gone out from Heshbon and from Sihon. It has destroyed the forehead of Moab and the top of the heads of the trouble-makers. 46 It is bad for you, Moab! The people of Chemosh have been destroyed. Your sons and daughters have been taken away in chains. 47 Yet I will return the people of Moab to their land in the last days,” says the Lord. This is the punishment of Moab.
God Speaks through Jeremiah about Ammon
49 About the sons of Ammon, the Lord says, “Does Israel have no sons? Does she have no one to receive what she leaves? Why then has Malcam taken Gad as his own? Why do his people live in its cities? 2 But the days are coming,” says the Lord, “when I will blow a horn giving the sound of war against Rabbah of the sons of Ammon. And it will become a waste. Its towns will be set on fire. Then Israel will take the land from those who had taken it from her,” says the Lord.
3 “Cry out, O Heshbon, for Ai has been destroyed! Cry out, O people of Rabbah. Put on clothes made from hair and cry in sorrow. And run this way and that way inside the walls. For Malcam will go to a strange land, together with his religious leaders and his important men. 4 How you speak in pride about the valleys! Your valley is flowing away, O daughter without faith who trusts in her riches, saying, ‘Who will come against me?’ 5 I will bring much trouble upon you,” says the Lord God of All. “It will come from all around you, and each of you will be driven away. There will be no one to gather together those who run for their lives. 6 But after this I will return the sons of Ammon to their land,” says the Lord.
God Speaks through Jeremiah about Edom
7 About Edom, the Lord of All says, “Is there no longer any wisdom in Teman? Have wise words been lost from the wise? Is their wisdom all gone? 8 Run away! Turn back and live in the deep places, O people of Dedan. For I will bring the trouble of Esau upon him when I punish him. 9 If those who gather grapes came to you, would they not leave some grapes behind? If robbers came during the night, would they not take only what was enough for them? 10 But I have taken all that Esau has. I have taken the covering from his hiding places so that he will not be able to hide himself. His children, his brothers, and his neighbors are destroyed. And he is no more. 11 Leave your children behind, who have lost their parents, and I will keep them alive. And let your women whose husbands have died trust in Me.” 12 For the Lord says, “If those who were not to drink the cup must drink it, will you go without being punished? You will not go without being punished, but you must drink it. 13 For I have promised by Myself,” says the Lord, “that Bozrah will become an object of trouble, a shame, a waste, and a curse. All its cities will be destroyed forever.”
14 I have heard word from the Lord. A man with news is sent among the nations, saying, “Gather together and come against her! Rise up for battle! 15 For I have made you small among the nations, hated among men. 16 As for the fear you have caused, the pride of your heart has fooled you, O you who live in the holes of rocks, who live on the top of the hill. Even if you make your nest as high as an eagle’s, I will bring you down from there,” says the Lord. 17 ‘Edom will become an object of trouble. Everyone who passes by will be surprised and will make fun of all its suffering. 18 As when Sodom and Gomorrah and their neighbors were destroyed, no one will live there,” says the Lord. “No man will live there. 19 One will come up like a lion from the trees by the Jordan to rich grass fields. All at once I will make him run away from Edom. And I will make whoever I choose rule over it. For who is like Me? Who will call Me into court? What shepherd can stand against Me?”
20 So hear the plan the Lord has made against Edom. Listen to His plans which He has made against the people of Teman. Even the little ones of the flock will be pulled away. For sure He will make their fields an empty waste because of them. 21 The earth will shake at the sound of their fall. The sound of their cry will be heard at the Red Sea. 22 See, one will come and fly down in a hurry like an eagle. He will spread out his wings against Bozrah. In that day the hearts of the strong men of Edom will be like the heart of a woman giving birth.
God Speaks through Jeremiah about Damascus
23 About Damascus, He says, “Hamath and Arpad are troubled, for they have heard bad news. Their hearts have become weak. They are troubled like the sea which cannot be quiet. 24 Damascus has become weak. She has turned to run away. Fear has taken hold of her. Pain and sorrows have taken hold of her like a woman giving birth. 25 Why does the city of praise, the town of My joy, still have people in it? 26 For sure her young men will fall in her streets. And all the men of war will be destroyed in that day,” says the Lord of All. 27 “I will set fire to the wall of Damascus. And it will burn up the strong towers of Ben-hadad.”
God Speaks through Jeremiah about Kedar and Hazor
28 About Kedar and the nations of Hazor, which were beaten in battle by Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, the Lord says, “Get up and go to Kedar, and destroy the men of the east. 29 Their tents and their flocks will be taken. Their tent curtains, and all their good things, and their camels will be carried away for themselves. And men will call out to them, ‘Trouble is on every side!’ 30 Run! Run far away! Live in the deep places, O people of Hazor,” says the Lord. “For Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon has made a plan against you. He has thought of a way to hurt you. 31 Get up and go to fight against a nation which is at rest and lives without fear,” says the Lord. “It has no gates with pieces of iron. And its people live alone. 32 Their camels and their many cattle will become a prize of war. I will send everywhere to the winds those who are in the farthest places. I will bring trouble to them from every side,” says the Lord. 33 “Hazor will become a place where wild dogs live, a waste place forever. No man will live there, and no man will stay there.”
God Speaks through Jeremiah about Elam
34 This is the Word of the Lord which came to Jeremiah the man of God about Elam, at the beginning of the rule of King Zedekiah of Judah, saying, 35 “The Lord of All says, ‘I will break the bow of Elam, the best of their strength. 36 I will bring the four winds to Elam from the four ends of heaven. And I will have these winds send them everywhere. There will not be a nation to which the people sent out of Elam will not go. 37 I will fill Elam with fear in front of those who hate them and want to kill them. I will bring much trouble upon them, even My burning anger,’ says the Lord. ‘I will send the sword after them until I have destroyed them. 38 Then I will set My throne in Elam, and will destroy their kings and leaders,’ says the Lord. 39 ‘But in the last days I will return the people of Elam to their land,’” says the Lord.

A Message About the Philistines
47 This is the word of the Lord that came to Jeremiah the prophet concerning the Philistines(A) before Pharaoh attacked Gaza:(B)
2 This is what the Lord says:
“See how the waters are rising in the north;(C)
they will become an overflowing torrent.
They will overflow the land and everything in it,
the towns and those who live in them.
The people will cry out;
all who dwell in the land will wail(D)
3 at the sound of the hooves of galloping steeds,
at the noise of enemy chariots(E)
and the rumble of their wheels.
Parents will not turn to help their children;
their hands will hang limp.(F)
4 For the day has come
to destroy all the Philistines
and to remove all survivors
who could help Tyre(G) and Sidon.(H)
The Lord is about to destroy the Philistines,(I)
the remnant from the coasts of Caphtor.[a](J)
5 Gaza will shave(K) her head in mourning;
Ashkelon(L) will be silenced.
You remnant on the plain,
how long will you cut(M) yourselves?
6 “‘Alas, sword(N) of the Lord,
how long till you rest?
Return to your sheath;
cease and be still.’(O)
7 But how can it rest
when the Lord has commanded it,
when he has ordered it
to attack Ashkelon and the coast?”(P)
A Message About Moab(Q)
48 Concerning Moab:(R)
This is what the Lord Almighty, the God of Israel, says:
“Woe to Nebo,(S) for it will be ruined.
Kiriathaim(T) will be disgraced and captured;
the stronghold[b] will be disgraced and shattered.
2 Moab will be praised(U) no more;
in Heshbon[c](V) people will plot her downfall:
‘Come, let us put an end to that nation.’(W)
You, the people of Madmen,[d] will also be silenced;
the sword will pursue you.
3 Cries of anguish arise from Horonaim,(X)
cries of great havoc and destruction.
4 Moab will be broken;
her little ones will cry out.[e]
5 They go up the hill to Luhith,(Y)
weeping bitterly as they go;
on the road down to Horonaim(Z)
anguished cries over the destruction are heard.
6 Flee!(AA) Run for your lives;
become like a bush[f] in the desert.(AB)
7 Since you trust in your deeds and riches,(AC)
you too will be taken captive,
and Chemosh(AD) will go into exile,(AE)
together with his priests and officials.(AF)
8 The destroyer(AG) will come against every town,
and not a town will escape.
The valley will be ruined
and the plateau(AH) destroyed,
because the Lord has spoken.
9 Put salt(AI) on Moab,
for she will be laid waste[g];(AJ)
her towns will become desolate,
with no one to live in them.
10 “A curse on anyone who is lax in doing the Lord’s work!
A curse on anyone who keeps their sword(AK) from bloodshed!(AL)
11 “Moab has been at rest(AM) from youth,
like wine left on its dregs,(AN)
not poured from one jar to another—
she has not gone into exile.
So she tastes as she did,
and her aroma is unchanged.
12 But days are coming,”
declares the Lord,
“when I will send men who pour from pitchers,
and they will pour her out;
they will empty her pitchers
and smash her jars.
13 Then Moab will be ashamed(AO) of Chemosh,(AP)
as Israel was ashamed
when they trusted in Bethel.(AQ)
14 “How can you say, ‘We are warriors,(AR)
men valiant in battle’?
15 Moab will be destroyed and her towns invaded;
her finest young men(AS) will go down in the slaughter,(AT)”
declares the King,(AU) whose name is the Lord Almighty.(AV)
16 “The fall of Moab is at hand;(AW)
her calamity will come quickly.
17 Mourn for her, all who live around her,
all who know her fame;(AX)
say, ‘How broken is the mighty scepter,(AY)
how broken the glorious staff!’
18 “Come down from your glory
and sit on the parched ground,(AZ)
you inhabitants of Daughter Dibon,(BA)
for the one who destroys Moab
will come up against you
and ruin your fortified cities.(BB)
19 Stand by the road and watch,
you who live in Aroer.(BC)
Ask the man fleeing and the woman escaping,
ask them, ‘What has happened?’
20 Moab is disgraced, for she is shattered.
Wail(BD) and cry out!
Announce by the Arnon(BE)
that Moab is destroyed.
21 Judgment has come to the plateau(BF)—
to Holon,(BG) Jahzah(BH) and Mephaath,(BI)
22 to Dibon,(BJ) Nebo(BK) and Beth Diblathaim,
23 to Kiriathaim,(BL) Beth Gamul and Beth Meon,(BM)
24 to Kerioth(BN) and Bozrah(BO)—
to all the towns(BP) of Moab, far and near.
25 Moab’s horn[h](BQ) is cut off;
her arm(BR) is broken,”
declares the Lord.
26 “Make her drunk,(BS)
for she has defied(BT) the Lord.
Let Moab wallow in her vomit;(BU)
let her be an object of ridicule.(BV)
27 Was not Israel the object of your ridicule?(BW)
Was she caught among thieves,(BX)
that you shake your head(BY) in scorn(BZ)
whenever you speak of her?
28 Abandon your towns and dwell among the rocks,
you who live in Moab.
Be like a dove(CA) that makes its nest
at the mouth of a cave.(CB)
29 “We have heard of Moab’s pride(CC)—
how great is her arrogance!—
of her insolence, her pride, her conceit
and the haughtiness(CD) of her heart.
30 I know her insolence but it is futile,”
declares the Lord,
“and her boasts(CE) accomplish nothing.
31 Therefore I wail(CF) over Moab,
for all Moab I cry out,
I moan for the people of Kir Hareseth.(CG)
32 I weep for you, as Jazer(CH) weeps,
you vines of Sibmah.(CI)
Your branches spread as far as the sea[i];
they reached as far as[j] Jazer.
The destroyer has fallen
on your ripened fruit and grapes.
33 Joy and gladness are gone
from the orchards and fields of Moab.
I have stopped the flow of wine(CJ) from the presses;
no one treads them with shouts of joy.(CK)
Although there are shouts,
they are not shouts of joy.
34 “The sound of their cry rises
from Heshbon(CL) to Elealeh(CM) and Jahaz,(CN)
from Zoar(CO) as far as Horonaim(CP) and Eglath Shelishiyah,
for even the waters of Nimrim are dried up.(CQ)
35 In Moab I will put an end
to those who make offerings on the high places(CR)
and burn incense(CS) to their gods,”
declares the Lord.
36 “So my heart laments(CT) for Moab like the music of a pipe;
it laments like a pipe for the people of Kir Hareseth.(CU)
The wealth they acquired(CV) is gone.
37 Every head is shaved(CW)
and every beard(CX) cut off;
every hand is slashed
and every waist is covered with sackcloth.(CY)
38 On all the roofs in Moab
and in the public squares(CZ)
there is nothing but mourning,
for I have broken Moab
like a jar(DA) that no one wants,”
declares the Lord.
39 “How shattered(DB) she is! How they wail!
How Moab turns her back in shame!
Moab has become an object of ridicule,(DC)
an object of horror to all those around her.”
40 This is what the Lord says:
“Look! An eagle is swooping(DD) down,
spreading its wings(DE) over Moab.
41 Kerioth[k](DF) will be captured
and the strongholds taken.
In that day the hearts of Moab’s warriors(DG)
will be like the heart of a woman in labor.(DH)
42 Moab will be destroyed(DI) as a nation(DJ)
because she defied(DK) the Lord.
43 Terror(DL) and pit and snare(DM) await you,
you people of Moab,”
declares the Lord.
44 “Whoever flees(DN) from the terror
will fall into a pit,
whoever climbs out of the pit
will be caught in a snare;
for I will bring on Moab
the year(DO) of her punishment,”
declares the Lord.
45 “In the shadow of Heshbon
the fugitives stand helpless,
for a fire has gone out from Heshbon,
a blaze from the midst of Sihon;(DP)
it burns the foreheads of Moab,
the skulls(DQ) of the noisy boasters.
46 Woe to you, Moab!(DR)
The people of Chemosh are destroyed;
your sons are taken into exile
and your daughters into captivity.
47 “Yet I will restore(DS) the fortunes of Moab
in days to come,”
declares the Lord.
Here ends the judgment on Moab.
A Message About Ammon
49 Concerning the Ammonites:(DT)
This is what the Lord says:
“Has Israel no sons?
Has Israel no heir?
Why then has Molek[l](DU) taken possession of Gad?(DV)
Why do his people live in its towns?
2 But the days are coming,”
declares the Lord,
“when I will sound the battle cry(DW)
against Rabbah(DX) of the Ammonites;
it will become a mound of ruins,(DY)
and its surrounding villages will be set on fire.
Then Israel will drive out
those who drove her out,(DZ)”
says the Lord.
3 “Wail, Heshbon,(EA) for Ai(EB) is destroyed!
Cry out, you inhabitants of Rabbah!
Put on sackcloth(EC) and mourn;
rush here and there inside the walls,
for Molek(ED) will go into exile,(EE)
together with his priests and officials.
4 Why do you boast of your valleys,
boast of your valleys so fruitful?
Unfaithful Daughter Ammon,(EF)
you trust in your riches(EG) and say,
‘Who will attack me?’(EH)
5 I will bring terror on you
from all those around you,”
declares the Lord, the Lord Almighty.
“Every one of you will be driven away,
and no one will gather the fugitives.(EI)
6 “Yet afterward, I will restore(EJ) the fortunes of the Ammonites,”
declares the Lord.
A Message About Edom(EK)(EL)
7 Concerning Edom:(EM)
This is what the Lord Almighty says:
“Is there no longer wisdom in Teman?(EN)
Has counsel perished from the prudent?
Has their wisdom decayed?
8 Turn and flee, hide in deep caves,(EO)
you who live in Dedan,(EP)
for I will bring disaster on Esau
at the time when I punish him.
9 If grape pickers came to you,
would they not leave a few grapes?
If thieves came during the night,
would they not steal only as much as they wanted?
10 But I will strip Esau bare;
I will uncover his hiding places,(EQ)
so that he cannot conceal himself.
His armed men are destroyed,
also his allies and neighbors,
so there is no one(ER) to say,
11 ‘Leave your fatherless children;(ES) I will keep them alive.
Your widows(ET) too can depend on me.’”
12 This is what the Lord says: “If those who do not deserve to drink the cup(EU) must drink it, why should you go unpunished?(EV) You will not go unpunished, but must drink it. 13 I swear(EW) by myself,” declares the Lord, “that Bozrah(EX) will become a ruin and a curse,[m] an object of horror(EY) and reproach;(EZ) and all its towns will be in ruins forever.”(FA)
14 I have heard a message from the Lord;
an envoy was sent to the nations to say,
“Assemble yourselves to attack it!
Rise up for battle!”
15 “Now I will make you small among the nations,
despised by mankind.
16 The terror you inspire
and the pride(FB) of your heart have deceived you,
you who live in the clefts of the rocks,(FC)
who occupy the heights of the hill.
Though you build your nest(FD) as high as the eagle’s,
from there I will bring you down,”
declares the Lord.
17 “Edom will become an object of horror;(FE)
all who pass by will be appalled and will scoff
because of all its wounds.(FF)
18 As Sodom(FG) and Gomorrah(FH) were overthrown,
along with their neighboring towns,”
says the Lord,
“so no one will live there;
no people will dwell(FI) in it.
19 “Like a lion(FJ) coming up from Jordan’s thickets(FK)
to a rich pastureland,
I will chase Edom from its land in an instant.
Who is the chosen one I will appoint for this?
Who is like(FL) me and who can challenge me?(FM)
And what shepherd(FN) can stand against me?”
20 Therefore, hear what the Lord has planned against Edom,(FO)
what he has purposed(FP) against those who live in Teman:(FQ)
The young of the flock(FR) will be dragged away;
their pasture will be appalled at their fate.(FS)
21 At the sound of their fall the earth will tremble;(FT)
their cry(FU) will resound to the Red Sea.[n]
22 Look! An eagle will soar and swoop(FV) down,
spreading its wings over Bozrah.(FW)

A Message About Damascus
23 Concerning Damascus:(FZ)
“Hamath(GA) and Arpad(GB) are dismayed,
for they have heard bad news.
They are disheartened,
troubled like[o] the restless sea.(GC)
24 Damascus has become feeble,
she has turned to flee
and panic has gripped her;
anguish and pain have seized her,
pain like that of a woman in labor.(GD)
25 Why has the city of renown not been abandoned,
the town in which I delight?
26 Surely, her young men(GE) will fall in the streets;
all her soldiers will be silenced(GF) in that day,”
declares the Lord Almighty.
27 “I will set fire(GG) to the walls of Damascus;(GH)
it will consume(GI) the fortresses of Ben-Hadad.(GJ)”
A Message About Kedar and Hazor
28 Concerning Kedar(GK) and the kingdoms of Hazor,(GL) which Nebuchadnezzar(GM) king of Babylon attacked:
This is what the Lord says:
“Arise, and attack Kedar
and destroy the people of the East.(GN)
29 Their tents and their flocks(GO) will be taken;
their shelters will be carried off
with all their goods and camels.
People will shout to them,
‘Terror(GP) on every side!’
30 “Flee quickly away!
Stay in deep caves,(GQ) you who live in Hazor,(GR)”
declares the Lord.
“Nebuchadnezzar(GS) king of Babylon has plotted against you;
he has devised a plan against you.
31 “Arise and attack a nation at ease,
which lives in confidence,”
declares the Lord,
“a nation that has neither gates nor bars;(GT)
its people live far from danger.
32 Their camels(GU) will become plunder,
and their large herds(GV) will be spoils of war.
I will scatter to the winds(GW) those who are in distant places[p](GX)
and will bring disaster on them from every side,”
declares the Lord.
33 “Hazor(GY) will become a haunt of jackals,(GZ)
a desolate(HA) place forever.
No one will live there;
no people will dwell(HB) in it.”
A Message About Elam
34 This is the word of the Lord that came to Jeremiah the prophet concerning Elam,(HC) early in the reign of Zedekiah(HD) king of Judah:
35 This is what the Lord Almighty says:
“See, I will break the bow(HE) of Elam,
the mainstay of their might.
36 I will bring against Elam the four winds(HF)
from the four quarters of heaven;(HG)
I will scatter them to the four winds,
and there will not be a nation
where Elam’s exiles do not go.
37 I will shatter Elam before their foes,
before those who want to kill them;
I will bring disaster on them,
even my fierce anger,”(HH)
declares the Lord.
“I will pursue them with the sword(HI)
until I have made an end of them.
38 I will set my throne in Elam
and destroy her king and officials,”
declares the Lord.
39 “Yet I will restore(HJ) the fortunes of Elam
in days to come,”
declares the Lord.
