12 I will destine you for the sword,(A)
and all of you will fall in the slaughter;(B)
for I called but you did not answer,(C)
I spoke but you did not listen.(D)
You did evil in my sight
    and chose what displeases me.”(E)

13 Therefore this is what the Sovereign Lord says:

“My servants will eat,(F)
    but you will go hungry;(G)
my servants will drink,(H)
    but you will go thirsty;(I)
my servants will rejoice,(J)
but you will be put to shame.(K)
14 My servants will sing(L)
out of the joy of their hearts,
but you will cry out(M)
    from anguish of heart
and wail in brokenness of spirit.
15 You will leave your name
for my chosen ones to use in their curses;(N)
the Sovereign Lord will put you to death,
but to his servants he will give another name.(O)
16 Whoever invokes a blessing(P) in the land
will do so by the one true God;(Q)
whoever takes an oath in the land
will swear(R) by the one true God.
For the past troubles(S) will be forgotten
    and hidden from my eyes.

New Heavens and a New Earth

17 “See, I will create
new heavens and a new earth.(T)
The former things will not be remembered,(U)
nor will they come to mind.
18 But be glad and rejoice(V) forever
    in what I will create,
for I will create Jerusalem(W) to be a delight
    and its people a joy.
19 I will rejoice(X) over Jerusalem
    and take delight(Y) in my people;
the sound of weeping and of crying(Z)
will be heard in it no more.

20 “Never again will there be in it
an infant(AA) who lives but a few days,
or an old man who does not live out his years;(AB)
the one who dies at a hundred
    will be thought a mere child;
the one who fails to reach[a] a hundred
    will be considered accursed.
21 They will build houses(AC) and dwell in them;
they will plant vineyards and eat their fruit.(AD)
22 No longer will they build houses and others live in them,(AE)
    or plant and others eat.
For as the days of a tree,(AF)
    so will be the days(AG) of my people;
my chosen(AH) ones will long enjoy
    the work of their hands.
23 They will not labor in vain,(AI)
nor will they bear children doomed to misfortune;(AJ)
for they will be a people blessed(AK) by the Lord,
they and their descendants(AL) with them.
24 Before they call(AM) I will answer;(AN)
while they are still speaking(AO) I will hear.
25 The wolf and the lamb(AP) will feed together,
and the lion will eat straw like the ox,(AQ)
and dust will be the serpent’s(AR) food.
They will neither harm nor destroy
    on all my holy mountain,”(AS)
says the Lord.

  1. Isaiah 65:20 Or the sinner who reaches

12 Therefore will I number you to the sword, and ye shall all bow down to the slaughter: because when I called, ye did not answer; when I spake, ye did not hear; but did evil before mine eyes, and did choose that wherein I delighted not.

13 Therefore thus saith the Lord God, Behold, my servants shall eat, but ye shall be hungry: behold, my servants shall drink, but ye shall be thirsty: behold, my servants shall rejoice, but ye shall be ashamed:

14 Behold, my servants shall sing for joy of heart, but ye shall cry for sorrow of heart, and shall howl for vexation of spirit.

15 And ye shall leave your name for a curse unto my chosen: for the Lord God shall slay thee, and call his servants by another name:

16 That he who blesseth himself in the earth shall bless himself in the God of truth; and he that sweareth in the earth shall swear by the God of truth; because the former troubles are forgotten, and because they are hid from mine eyes.

17 For, behold, I create new heavens and a new earth: and the former shall not be remembered, nor come into mind.

18 But be ye glad and rejoice for ever in that which I create: for, behold, I create Jerusalem a rejoicing, and her people a joy.

19 And I will rejoice in Jerusalem, and joy in my people: and the voice of weeping shall be no more heard in her, nor the voice of crying.

20 There shall be no more thence an infant of days, nor an old man that hath not filled his days: for the child shall die an hundred years old; but the sinner being an hundred years old shall be accursed.

21 And they shall build houses, and inhabit them; and they shall plant vineyards, and eat the fruit of them.

22 They shall not build, and another inhabit; they shall not plant, and another eat: for as the days of a tree are the days of my people, and mine elect shall long enjoy the work of their hands.

23 They shall not labour in vain, nor bring forth for trouble; for they are the seed of the blessed of the Lord, and their offspring with them.

24 And it shall come to pass, that before they call, I will answer; and while they are yet speaking, I will hear.

25 The wolf and the lamb shall feed together, and the lion shall eat straw like the bullock: and dust shall be the serpent's meat. They shall not hurt nor destroy in all my holy mountain, saith the Lord.
