⁶^(A)I gave my back to those who strike,
and my cheeks to those who pull out the beard;
I hid not my face
from disgrace and spitting.

New International Version

⁶I offered my back to those who beat^(A) me,
my cheeks to those who pulled out my beard;^(B)
I did not hide my face
from mocking and spitting.^(C)

³⁹But I say to you, ^(A)Do not resist the one who is evil. But ^(B)if anyone ^(C)slaps you on the right cheek, turn to him the other also.

³⁹But I tell you, do not resist an evil person. If anyone slaps you on the right cheek, turn to them the other cheek also.^(A)
