The pronouncement concerning the (A)animals of the (B)Negev:

Through a land of (C)distress and anguish,
From [a]where come lioness and lion, viper and (D)flying serpent,
They (E)carry their riches on the [b]backs of young donkeys,
And their treasures on (F)camels’ humps,
To a people who will not benefit them;
Even Egypt, whose (G)help is vain and empty.
Therefore, I have called [c]her
[d](H)Rahab who has been exterminated.”
Now go, (I)write it on a tablet in their presence
And inscribe it on a scroll,
That it may [e]serve in the time to come
[f]As a witness forever.
For this is a (J)rebellious people, (K)false sons,
Sons who [g]refuse to (L)listen
To the [h]instruction of the Lord;
10 Who say to the (M)seers, “You must not see visions”;
And to the prophets, “You must not (N)prophesy the truth to us.
(O)Speak to us [i]pleasant words,
Prophesy illusions.
11 Get out of the way, (P)turn aside from the path,
(Q)Stop speaking before us about the Holy One of Israel!”

A prophecy(A) concerning the animals of the Negev:(B)

Through a land of hardship and distress,(C)
    of lions(D) and lionesses,
    of adders and darting snakes,(E)
the envoys carry their riches on donkeys’(F) backs,
    their treasures(G) on the humps of camels,
to that unprofitable nation,
    to Egypt, whose help is utterly useless.(H)
Therefore I call her
    Rahab(I) the Do-Nothing.

Go now, write it on a tablet(J) for them,
    inscribe it on a scroll,(K)
that for the days to come
    it may be an everlasting witness.(L)
For these are rebellious(M) people, deceitful(N) children,
    children unwilling to listen to the Lord’s instruction.(O)
10 They say to the seers,(P)
    “See no more visions(Q)!”
and to the prophets,
    “Give us no more visions of what is right!
Tell us pleasant things,(R)
    prophesy illusions.(S)
11 Leave this way,(T)
    get off this path,
and stop confronting(U) us
    with the Holy One(V) of Israel!”

The burden of the beasts of the south: into the land of trouble and anguish, from whence come the young and old lion, the viper and fiery flying serpent, they will carry their riches upon the shoulders of young asses, and their treasures upon the bunches of camels, to a people that shall not profit them.

For the Egyptians shall help in vain, and to no purpose: therefore have I cried concerning this, Their strength is to sit still.

Now go, write it before them in a table, and note it in a book, that it may be for the time to come for ever and ever:

That this is a rebellious people, lying children, children that will not hear the law of the Lord:

10 Which say to the seers, See not; and to the prophets, Prophesy not unto us right things, speak unto us smooth things, prophesy deceits:

11 Get you out of the way, turn aside out of the path, cause the Holy One of Israel to cease from before us.
