5 I did know thee in the wilderness, in the land of great drought.
6 According to their pasture, so were they filled; they were filled, and their heart was exalted; therefore have they forgotten me.
7 Therefore I will be unto them as a lion: as a leopard by the way will I observe them:
8 I will meet them as a bear that is bereaved of her whelps, and will rend the caul of their heart, and there will I devour them like a lion: the wild beast shall tear them.

5 I cared for you in the wilderness,(A)
in the land of burning heat.
6 When I fed them, they were satisfied;
when they were satisfied, they became proud;(B)
then they forgot(C) me.(D)
7 So I will be like a lion(E) to them,
like a leopard I will lurk by the path.
8 Like a bear robbed of her cubs,(F)
I will attack them and rip them open;
like a lion(G) I will devour them—
a wild animal will tear them apart.(H)
