Hebrews 2:15-17

15 Jesus became like men and died so that he could free them. They were like slaves all their lives because of their fear of death. 16 Clearly, it is not angels that Jesus helps, but the people who are from Abraham.[a] 17 For this reason Jesus had to be made like his brothers in every way. He became like men so that he could be their merciful and faithful high priest in service to God. Then Jesus could bring forgiveness for their sins.

15 and free those who all their lives were held in slavery by their fear(A) of death. 16 For surely it is not angels he helps, but Abraham’s descendants.(B) 17 For this reason he had to be made like them,[a](C) fully human in every way, in order that he might become a merciful(D) and faithful high priest(E) in service to God,(F) and that he might make atonement for the sins of the people.(G)
