6 for the Lord disciplines those whom he loves
and chastises every child whom he accepts.”(A)
7 Endure trials for the sake of discipline. God is treating you as children, for what child is there whom a parent does not discipline?(B) 8 If you do not have that discipline in which all children share, then you are illegitimate and not his children.(C)

6 because the Lord disciplines the one he loves,(A)
and he chastens everyone he accepts as his son.”[a](B)
7 Endure hardship as discipline; God is treating you as his children.(C) For what children are not disciplined by their father? 8 If you are not disciplined—and everyone undergoes discipline(D)—then you are not legitimate, not true sons and daughters at all.
