Then the (A)glory of the God of Israel ascended from the cherub on which it had been, to the threshold of the [a]temple. And He called to the man clothed in linen at whose waist was the scribe’s kit. And the Lord said to him, “Go through the midst of the city, through the midst of Jerusalem, and make a (B)mark on the foreheads of the people who (C)groan and sigh over all the abominations which are being committed in its midst.” But to the others He said in my [b]presence, “Go through the city after him and strike; do not let your eye have pity and do not spare. [c]Utterly (D)kill old men, young men, female virgins, little children, and women, but do not (E)touch any person on whom is the mark; and you shall (F)start from My sanctuary.” So they started with the [d]elders who were before the [e]temple.

Now the glory(A) of the God of Israel went up from above the cherubim,(B) where it had been, and moved to the threshold of the temple. Then the Lord called to the man clothed in linen who had the writing kit at his side and said to him, “Go throughout the city of Jerusalem(C) and put a mark(D) on the foreheads of those who grieve and lament(E) over all the detestable things that are done in it.(F)

As I listened, he said to the others, “Follow him through the city and kill, without showing pity(G) or compassion.(H) Slaughter(I) the old men, the young men and women, the mothers and children,(J) but do not touch anyone who has the mark.(K) Begin at my sanctuary.” So they began with the old men(L) who were in front of the temple.(M)
