²² “Do not take advantage of the widow or the fatherless.^(A)

³¹ Rid^(A) yourselves of all the offenses you have committed, and get a new heart^(B) and a new spirit. Why^(C) will you die, people of Israel?^(D)

⁷ In you they have treated father and mother with contempt;^(A) in you they have oppressed the foreigner^(B) and mistreated the fatherless and the widow.^(C)

³ And there was a widow in that town who kept coming to him with the plea, ‘Grant me justice^(A) against my adversary.’

²⁷ Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after^(A) orphans and widows^(B) in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.^(C)
