Exodus 20:22-26
New King James Version
The Law of the Altar
22 Then the Lord said to Moses, “Thus you shall say to the children of Israel: ‘You have seen that I have talked with you (A)from heaven. 23 You shall not make anything to be (B)with Me—gods of silver or gods of gold you shall not make for yourselves. 24 An altar of (C)earth you shall make for Me, and you shall sacrifice on it your burnt offerings and your peace offerings, (D)your sheep and your oxen. In every (E)place where I [a]record My name I will come to you, and I will (F)bless you. 25 And (G)if you make Me an altar of stone, you shall not build it of hewn stone; for if you (H)use your tool on it, you have profaned it. 26 Nor shall you go up by steps to My altar, that your (I)nakedness may not be exposed on it.’

Idols and Altars
22 Then the Lord said to Moses, “Tell the Israelites this: ‘You have seen for yourselves that I have spoken to you from heaven:(A) 23 Do not make any gods to be alongside me;(B) do not make for yourselves gods of silver or gods of gold.(C)
24 “‘Make an altar(D) of earth for me and sacrifice on it your burnt offerings(E) and fellowship offerings, your sheep and goats and your cattle. Wherever I cause my name(F) to be honored, I will come to you and bless(G) you. 25 If you make an altar of stones for me, do not build it with dressed stones, for you will defile it if you use a tool(H) on it. 26 And do not go up to my altar on steps, or your private parts(I) may be exposed.’
