2 [a] Be not rash with your mouth, nor let your heart be hasty to utter a word before God, for God is in heaven and you are on earth. Therefore (A)let your words be few.

4 When (A)you vow a vow to God, (B)do not delay paying it, for he has no pleasure in fools. (C)Pay what you vow. 5 (D)It is better that you should not vow than that you should vow and not pay. 6 Let not your mouth lead you[a] into sin, and do not say before (E)the messenger[b] that it was (F)a mistake. Why should God be angry at your voice and destroy the work of your hands?

4 When you make a vow to God, do not delay to fulfill it.(A) He has no pleasure in fools; fulfill your vow.(B) 5 It is better not to make a vow than to make one and not fulfill it.(C) 6 Do not let your mouth lead you into sin. And do not protest to the temple messenger, “My vow was a mistake.” Why should God be angry at what you say and destroy the work of your hands?

5 Better is it that thou shouldest not vow, than that thou shouldest vow and not pay.
6 Suffer not thy mouth to cause thy flesh to sin; neither say thou before the angel, that it was an error: wherefore should God be angry at thy voice, and destroy the work of thine hands?
