13 So the law went forth that the wise men were to be killed; and they sought out (A)Daniel and his friends to [a]kill them.

14 Then Daniel replied with discretion and discernment to (B)Arioch, the captain of the king’s [b]bodyguard, who had gone forth to kill the wise men of Babylon; 15 he answered and said to Arioch, a powerful [c]official for the king, “For what reason is the law from the king so [d]urgent?” Then Arioch made the matter known to Daniel.

13 So the decree was issued to put the wise men to death, and men were sent to look for Daniel and his friends to put them to death.(A)

14 When Arioch, the commander of the king’s guard, had gone out to put to death the wise men of Babylon, Daniel spoke to him with wisdom and tact. 15 He asked the king’s officer, “Why did the king issue such a harsh decree?” Arioch then explained the matter to Daniel.
