Acts 28:3-6
New American Standard Bible
3 But when Paul had gathered a bundle of sticks and laid them on the fire, a viper came out [a]because of the heat and fastened itself on his hand. 4 When (A)the [b]natives saw the creature hanging from his hand, they began saying to one another, “(B)Undoubtedly this man is a murderer, and though he has been saved from the sea, [c]justice has not allowed him to live.” 5 However, [d](C)Paul shook the creature off into the fire and suffered no harm. 6 Now they were expecting that he was going to swell up or suddenly fall down dead. But after they had waited a long time and had seen nothing unusual happen to him, they changed their minds and (D)began to say that he was a god.

3 Paul gathered a pile of brushwood and, as he put it on the fire, a viper, driven out by the heat, fastened itself on his hand. 4 When the islanders saw the snake hanging from his hand,(A) they said to each other, “This man must be a murderer; for though he escaped from the sea, the goddess Justice has not allowed him to live.”(B) 5 But Paul shook the snake off into the fire and suffered no ill effects.(C) 6 The people expected him to swell up or suddenly fall dead; but after waiting a long time and seeing nothing unusual happen to him, they changed their minds and said he was a god.(D)
