37 But Paul said to them, “After beating us in public without due process—(A)men who are Romans—they threw us into prison; and now they are releasing us secretly? No indeed! On the contrary, let them come [a]in person and lead us out.” 38 The officers reported these words to the chief magistrates. (B)And they became fearful when they heard that they were Romans, 39 and they came and pleaded with them, and when they had led them out, they repeatedly asked them (C)to leave the city. 40 They left the prison and entered the house of (D)Lydia, and when they saw (E)the brothers and sisters, they [b]encouraged them and departed.

38 The officers reported this to the magistrates, and when they heard that Paul and Silas were Roman citizens, they were alarmed.(B) 39 They came to appease them and escorted them from the prison, requesting them to leave the city.(C) 40 After Paul and Silas came out of the prison, they went to Lydia’s house,(D) where they met with the brothers and sisters(E) and encouraged them. 38 And the serjeants told these words unto the magistrates: and they feared, when they heard that they were Romans.

39 And they came and besought them, and brought them out, and desired them to depart out of the city.

40 And they went out of the prison, and entered into the house of Lydia: and when they had seen the brethren, they comforted them, and departed.
