^8 (A)in flaming fire, inflicting vengeance on those ^(B)who do not know God and on those who ^(C)do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus. ⁹ They will suffer the punishment of ^(D)eternal destruction, ^(E)away from^[a] the presence of the Lord and from the glory of his might,

¹² remember ^(A)that you were at that time separated from Christ, ^(B)alienated from the commonwealth of Israel and strangers to ^(C)the covenants of promise, ^(D)having no hope and without God in the world.

¹⁰ He was in the world, and the world was made through him, yet ^(A)the world did not know him. ¹¹ He came to ^(B)his own,^[a] and ^(C)his own people^{[b] (D)}did not receive him. ¹² But to all who did receive him, ^(E)who believed in his name, ^(F)he gave the right ^(G)to become ^(H)children of God,
