³ But don't be fooled! People will rebel against God. Then before the Lord returns, the wicked^[a] one who is doomed to be destroyed will appear.

^4 (A) He will brag and oppose everything holy or sacred. He will even sit in God's temple and claim to be God.

^5 (A) The beast was allowed to brag and claim to be God, and for 42 months it was allowed to rule.

⁶ The beast cursed God, and it cursed the name of God. It even cursed the place where God lives, as well as everyone who lives in heaven with God.
