1 John 4:20-5:5

New International Version

²⁰ Whoever claims to love God yet hates a brother or sister^(A) is a liar.^(B) For whoever does not love their brother and sister, whom they have seen,^(C) cannot love God, whom they have not seen.^{(D) 21} And he has given us this command:^(E) Anyone who loves God must also love their brother and sister.^(F)

Faith in the Incarnate Son of God

5 Everyone who believes^(G) that Jesus is the Christ^(H) is born of God,^(I) and everyone who loves the father loves his child as well.^{(J) 2} This is how we know^(K) that we love the children of God:^(L) by loving God and carrying out his commands. ³ In fact, this is love for God: to keep his commands.^(M) And his commands are not burdensome,^{(N) 4} for everyone born of God^(O) overcomes^(P) the world. This is the victory that has overcome the world, even our faith. ⁵ Who is it that overcomes the world? Only the one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God.^(Q)
