For you recall, brothers and sisters, our (A)labor and hardship: it was by (B)working night and day so as not to be a (C)burden to any of you, that we proclaimed to you the (D)gospel of God.

Surely you remember, brothers and sisters, our toil and hardship; we worked(A) night and day in order not to be a burden to anyone(B) while we preached the gospel of God to you.

nor did we (A)eat [a]anyone’s bread [b]without paying for it, but with (B)labor and hardship we kept (C)working night and day so that we would not be a burden to any of you; not because we do not have (D)the right to this, but in order to offer ourselves (E)as a role model for you, so that you would [c]follow our example. 10 For even (F)when we were with you, we used to give you this order: (G)if anyone is not willing to work, then he is not to eat, either. 11 For we hear that some among you are (H)leading an undisciplined life, doing no work at all, but acting like (I)busybodies. 12 Now we command and (J)exhort such persons in the Lord Jesus Christ to (K)work [d]peacefully and eat their own bread. 13 But as for you, (L)brothers and sisters, (M)do not grow weary of doing good.

14 If anyone does not obey our [e]instruction [f](N)in this letter, take special note of that person so as (O)not to associate with him, so that he will be (P)put to shame. 15 And yet (Q)do not regard that person as an enemy, but [g](R)admonish that one as a (S)brother or sister.

16 Now (T)may the Lord of peace (U)Himself continually grant you peace in every [h]circumstance. (V)The Lord be with you all!

17 [i]I, Paul, write this greeting (W)with my own hand, and this is a distinguishing mark in every letter; this is the way I write. 18 (X)The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all.

nor did we eat anyone’s food without paying for it. On the contrary, we worked(A) night and day, laboring and toiling so that we would not be a burden to any of you. We did this, not because we do not have the right to such help,(B) but in order to offer ourselves as a model for you to imitate.(C) 10 For even when we were with you,(D) we gave you this rule: “The one who is unwilling to work(E) shall not eat.”

11 We hear that some among you are idle and disruptive. They are not busy; they are busybodies.(F) 12 Such people we command and urge in the Lord Jesus Christ(G) to settle down and earn the food they eat.(H) 13 And as for you, brothers and sisters, never tire of doing what is good.(I)

14 Take special note of anyone who does not obey our instruction in this letter. Do not associate with them,(J) in order that they may feel ashamed.(K) 15 Yet do not regard them as an enemy, but warn them as you would a fellow believer.(L)

Final Greetings

16 Now may the Lord of peace(M) himself give you peace at all times and in every way. The Lord be with all of you.(N)

17 I, Paul, write this greeting in my own hand,(O) which is the distinguishing mark in all my letters. This is how I write.

18 The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all.(P)
