The husband must fulfill his duty to his wife, and likewise the wife also to her husband. The wife does not have authority over her own body, but the husband does; and likewise the husband also does not have authority over his own body, but the wife does. [a](A)Stop depriving one another, except by agreement for a time so that you may devote yourselves to prayer, and [b]come together again so that (B)Satan will not tempt you because of your lack of self-control. But this I say by way of concession, (C)not of command. [c]Yet I wish that all [d]men were (D)even as I myself am. However, (E)each has his own gift from God, one in this way, and another in that.

But I say to the unmarried and to widows that it is (F)good for them if they remain (G)even as I. But if they do not have self-control, (H)let them marry; for it is better to marry than to burn with passion.

10 But to the married I give instructions, (I)not I, but the Lord, that the wife is not to leave her husband 11 (but if she does leave, she must remain unmarried, or else be reconciled to her husband), and that the husband is not to [e]divorce his wife.

12 But to the rest (J)I say, not the Lord, that if any brother has an unbelieving wife, and she consents to live with him, he must not [f]divorce her. 13 And [g]if any woman has an unbelieving husband, and he consents to live with her, she must not [h]divorce her husband. 14 For the unbelieving husband is sanctified through his wife, and the unbelieving wife is sanctified through [i]her believing husband; for otherwise your children are unclean, but now they are (K)holy. 15 Yet if the unbelieving one is leaving, [j]let him leave; the brother or the sister is not under bondage in such cases, but God has called [k]us (L)in peace. 16 For how do you know, wife, whether you will (M)save your husband? Or how do you know, husband, whether you will save your wife?

The husband should fulfill his marital duty to his wife,(A) and likewise the wife to her husband. The wife does not have authority over her own body but yields it to her husband. In the same way, the husband does not have authority over his own body but yields it to his wife. Do not deprive each other except perhaps by mutual consent and for a time,(B) so that you may devote yourselves to prayer. Then come together again so that Satan(C) will not tempt you(D) because of your lack of self-control. I say this as a concession, not as a command.(E) I wish that all of you were as I am.(F) But each of you has your own gift from God; one has this gift, another has that.(G)

Now to the unmarried[a] and the widows I say: It is good for them to stay unmarried, as I do.(H) But if they cannot control themselves, they should marry,(I) for it is better to marry than to burn with passion.

10 To the married I give this command (not I, but the Lord): A wife must not separate from her husband.(J) 11 But if she does, she must remain unmarried or else be reconciled to her husband.(K) And a husband must not divorce his wife.

12 To the rest I say this (I, not the Lord):(L) If any brother has a wife who is not a believer and she is willing to live with him, he must not divorce her. 13 And if a woman has a husband who is not a believer and he is willing to live with her, she must not divorce him. 14 For the unbelieving husband has been sanctified through his wife, and the unbelieving wife has been sanctified through her believing husband. Otherwise your children would be unclean, but as it is, they are holy.(M)

15 But if the unbeliever leaves, let it be so. The brother or the sister is not bound in such circumstances; God has called us to live in peace.(N) 16 How do you know, wife, whether you will save(O) your husband?(P) Or, how do you know, husband, whether you will save your wife?
