21 또 나는 새 하늘과 새 땅을 보았습니다. 전에 있던 하늘과 땅은 사라지고 바다도 없어졌습니다.
2 나는 거룩한 성 새 예루살렘이 하나님에게서부터 하늘에서 내려오는 것을 보았는데 마치 신부가 신랑을 위해 단장한 것 같았습니다.
3 그때 나는 보좌에서 큰 소리로 이렇게 말하는 것을 들었습니다. “이제 하나님의 집이 사람들과 함께 있다. 하나님께서 사람들과 함께 계시고 그들은 하나님의 백성이 될 것이다. 하나님이 몸소 그들과 함께 계셔서
4 그들의 눈에서 모든 눈물을 씻어 주실 것이니 다시는 죽음도 없고 슬픔도 없고 우는 것도, 아픔도 없을 것이다. 이것은 전에 있던 것들이 다 사라져 버렸기 때문이다.”
5 그때 보좌에 앉으신 분이 “이제 내가 모든 것을 새롭게 한다” 하시고 이어서 “이 말은 진실하고 참되다. 너는 이것을 기록하여라” 하고 말씀하셨습니다.
6 그분은 또 나에게 이렇게 말씀하셨습니다. “이제 다 마쳤다. 나는 [a]처음과 마지막이며 시작과 끝이다. 내가 목마른 사람에게 생명의 샘물을 값 없이 주겠다.
7 신앙의 승리자는 이 모든 것을 받게 될 것이며 나는 그의 하나님이 되고 그는 내 아들이 될 것이다.
8 그러나 비겁한 사람과 불신자와 흉악한 사람과 살인자와 음란한 사람과 마술사와 우상 숭배자와 모든 거짓말쟁이들은 유황이 타는 불못에 던져질 것이다. 이것이 둘째 죽음이다.”
새 예루살렘
9 마지막 일곱 재앙이 가득 담긴 일곱 대접을 든 일곱 천사 가운데 하나가 와서 “나오너라. 내가 네게 어린 양의 아내 될 신부를 보여 주겠다” 하고 말했습니다.
10 그리고 그 천사는 성령에 사로잡힌 나를 데리고 높은 산으로 올라가 거룩한 성 예루살렘이 하나님에게서부터 하늘에서 내려오는 것을 보여 주었습니다.
11 그 성은 하나님의 영광의 광채로 둘러싸여
그 빛이 귀한 보석과 같았고 수정처럼 맑은 벽옥과 같았습니다.
12 그 성에는 크고 높은 성벽과 열두 문이 있었으며 그 문에는 열두 천사가 있고 이스라엘 열두 지파의 이름이 쓰여 있었는데
13 그 문은 동서남북에 각각 세 개씩 있었습니다.
14 또 성벽에는 열두 개의 주춧돌이 있고 그 위 에 어린 양의 열두 사도의 이름이 쓰여 있었습니다.
15 내게 말하던 천사는 그 성과 성문과 성벽을 재려고 금 잣대를 가지고 있었습니다.
16 그 성은 네모가 반듯한 정사각형이었습니다. 천사가 잣대로 성을 재어 보니 길이와 폭과 높이가 다 같이 약 [b]2,200킬로미터였습니다.
17 그리고 성벽 [c]두께를 재어 보니 약 [d]65미터였는데 이것은 천사의 측량이지만 사람의 측량 기준에 의한 것입니다.
18 성벽은 전체가 벽옥으로 만들어져 있었고 성은 맑은 유리 같은 순금으로 되어 있었습니다.
19 그리고 성벽의 주춧돌은 모두 보석으로 꾸며져 있었습니다. 그 첫째 주춧돌은 벽옥으로, 둘째는 청옥, 셋째는 옥수, 넷째는 비취옥,
20 다섯째는 호마노, 여섯째는 홍옥수, 일곱째는 감람석, 여덟째는 녹주석, 아홉째는 황옥, 열째는 녹옥수, 열한째는 히아신드, 열두째는 자수정으로 꾸며져 있었습니다.
21 또 열두 개의 성문은 각각 하나의 거대한 진주로 되어 있었으며 성의 거리는 맑은 유리 같은 순금으로 되어 있었습니다.
22 나는 성 안에서 성전을 보지 못했습니다. 이것은 전능하신 주 하나님과 어린 양이 그 성의 성전이 되기 때문입니다.
23 또 그 성에는 하나님의 영광의 광채가 비치고 어린 양이 그 성의 등불이 되시기 때문에 해와 달이 필요 없습니다.
24 세상의 모든 민족이 그 빛 가운데로 다닐 것이며 땅의 왕들이 [e]영광스러운 모습 그대로 이 성에 들어올 것입니다.
25 그 성에는 밤이 없으므로 온종일 성문이 닫히는 일이 없을 것입니다.
26 그리고 모든 나라 사람들이 그들의 영광과 존귀를 가지고 그리로 들어올 것입니다.
27 그러나 더러운 짓과 역겨운 짓을 하는 사람과 거짓말쟁이는 그 성에 들어가지 못하고 오직 어린 양의 생명책에 이름이 기록된 사람들만 들어갈 것입니다.
생명 강
22 그 천사는 또 내게 수정같이 맑은 생명수 강을 보여 주었습니다. 그 강은 하나님과 어린 양의 보좌에서 흘러 나와
2 그 성의 거리 중앙으로 흐르고 있었습니다. 강 양쪽에는 생명 나무가 있어서 일 년에 [f]열두 번 열매를 맺어서 달마다 과일이 맺혔습니다. 그리고 그 잎은 모든 나라 사람들을 치료하는 약이 되었습니다.
3 다시는 그 성에 저주가 없을 것입니다. 하나님과 어린 양의 보좌가 그 성에 있을 것이며 그분의 종들이 그분을 섬길 것입니다.
4 그들은 하나님의 얼굴을 보게 될 것이며 그들의 이마에는 하나님의 이름이 기록될 것입니다.
5 거기에는 더 이상 밤이 없을 것이며 등불이나 햇빛이 필요 없을 것입니다. 이것은 하나님이 그들에게 빛을 주실 것이기 때문입니다. 거기서 그들은 영원히 [g]왕처럼 살 것입니다.
6 그 천사는 또 나에게 이렇게 말했습니다. “이것은 진실하고 참된 말씀이다. 예언자들에게 [h]성령을 주시는 주 하나님께서 그의 종들에게 곧 되어질 일들을 보이시려고 그분의 천사를 보내셨다.”
7 그때 예수님이 말씀하셨습니다. “보라! 내가 속히 가겠다. 이 책에 있는 예언의 말씀을 지키는 사람은 행복하다.”
8 나 요한은 이 모든 것을 직접 듣고 보았습니다. 나는 이 모든 것을 듣고 본 후에 이런 것을 나에게 보여 준 천사의 발 앞에 엎드려 경배하려고 하였습니다.
9 그러자 그는 “그렇게 하지 말아라. 나도 너와 네 형제 예언자들과 이 책의 말씀을 지키는 사람들과 같은 종이다. 그러므로 너는 하나님에게만 경배하여라” 하였습니다.
10 그러고서 천사는 다시 나에게 말했습니다. “때가 가까웠으니 이 책에 기록된 예언의 말씀을 봉하지 말아라.
11 악한 사람은 계속 악을 행하게 하고 더러운 사람은 계속 더럽게 내버려 두고 의로운 사람은 계속 의로운 일을 하게 하고 거룩한 사람은 계속 거룩하게 하라.”
12 그때 예수님이 말씀하셨습니다. “보라! 내가 속히 가겠다. 너희에게 줄 상이 내게 있으니 각 사람에게 일한 대로 갚아 주겠다.
13 나는 처음과 마지막이며 시작과 끝이다.
14 자기 옷을 빠는 사람은 행복한 사람이다. 그래야 생명 나무 과일을 먹을 수 있을 것이며 성문을 통해 새 예루살렘성에 들어갈 수 있을 것이다.
15 그러나 개 같은 사람들과 마술사와 음란한 사람과 살인자와 우상 숭배자와 거짓말을 좋아하고 지어내는 사람은 성 안에 들어오지 못할 것이다.
16 나 예수는 온 교회에 이 모든 것을 증거하게 하려고 나의 천사를 너희에게 보냈다. 나는 다윗의 자손이며 빛나는 샛별이다.”
17 성령님과 신부가 “오소서!” 하고 말씀하십니다. 이 말씀을 듣는 사람들도 “오소서!” 하고 말하십시오. 그리고 목마른 사람도 오십시오. 누구든지 생명의 물을 마시고 싶은 사람은 와서 마음껏 마시십시오.
18 나는 이 책에 쓰인 예언의 말씀을 듣는 모든 사람에게 경고합니다. 누구든지 이 예언의 말씀에 무엇을 더하면 하나님이 이 책에 기록된 재앙을 더하실 것입니다.
19 또 누구든지 이 예언의 말씀에서 무엇을 빼면 하나님이 이 책에 기록된 생명 나무와 거룩한 성에 참여하는 특권을 빼앗아 버리실 것입니다.
20 이 모든 것을 증거하신 분이 말씀하십니다. “내가 속히 가겠다.” 아멘. 주 예수님, 어서 오십시오.
21 주 예수님의 은혜가 모든 성도들과 함께하기를 기도합니다. 아멘.

A New Heaven and a New Earth
21 Then I saw “a new heaven and a new earth,”[a](A) for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away,(B) and there was no longer any sea. 2 I saw the Holy City,(C) the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God,(D) prepared as a bride(E) beautifully dressed for her husband. 3 And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Look! God’s dwelling place is now among the people, and he will dwell with them.(F) They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God.(G) 4 ‘He will wipe every tear from their eyes.(H) There will be no more death’[b](I) or mourning or crying or pain,(J) for the old order of things has passed away.”(K)
5 He who was seated on the throne(L) said, “I am making everything new!”(M) Then he said, “Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true.”(N)
6 He said to me: “It is done.(O) I am the Alpha and the Omega,(P) the Beginning and the End. To the thirsty I will give water without cost(Q) from the spring of the water of life.(R) 7 Those who are victorious(S) will inherit all this, and I will be their God and they will be my children.(T) 8 But the cowardly, the unbelieving, the vile, the murderers, the sexually immoral, those who practice magic arts, the idolaters and all liars(U)—they will be consigned to the fiery lake of burning sulfur.(V) This is the second death.”(W)
The New Jerusalem, the Bride of the Lamb
9 One of the seven angels who had the seven bowls full of the seven last plagues(X) came and said to me, “Come, I will show you the bride,(Y) the wife of the Lamb.” 10 And he carried me away(Z) in the Spirit(AA) to a mountain great and high, and showed me the Holy City, Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God.(AB) 11 It shone with the glory of God,(AC) and its brilliance was like that of a very precious jewel, like a jasper,(AD) clear as crystal.(AE) 12 It had a great, high wall with twelve gates,(AF) and with twelve angels at the gates. On the gates were written the names of the twelve tribes of Israel.(AG) 13 There were three gates on the east, three on the north, three on the south and three on the west. 14 The wall of the city had twelve foundations,(AH) and on them were the names of the twelve apostles(AI) of the Lamb.
15 The angel who talked with me had a measuring rod(AJ) of gold to measure the city, its gates(AK) and its walls. 16 The city was laid out like a square, as long as it was wide. He measured the city with the rod and found it to be 12,000 stadia[c] in length, and as wide and high as it is long. 17 The angel measured the wall using human(AL) measurement, and it was 144 cubits[d] thick.[e] 18 The wall was made of jasper,(AM) and the city of pure gold, as pure as glass.(AN) 19 The foundations of the city walls were decorated with every kind of precious stone.(AO) The first foundation was jasper,(AP) the second sapphire, the third agate, the fourth emerald, 20 the fifth onyx, the sixth ruby,(AQ) the seventh chrysolite, the eighth beryl, the ninth topaz, the tenth turquoise, the eleventh jacinth, and the twelfth amethyst.[f] 21 The twelve gates(AR) were twelve pearls,(AS) each gate made of a single pearl. The great street of the city was of gold, as pure as transparent glass.(AT)
22 I did not see a temple(AU) in the city, because the Lord God Almighty(AV) and the Lamb(AW) are its temple. 23 The city does not need the sun or the moon to shine on it, for the glory of God(AX) gives it light,(AY) and the Lamb(AZ) is its lamp. 24 The nations will walk by its light, and the kings of the earth will bring their splendor into it.(BA) 25 On no day will its gates(BB) ever be shut,(BC) for there will be no night there.(BD) 26 The glory and honor of the nations will be brought into it.(BE) 27 Nothing impure will ever enter it, nor will anyone who does what is shameful or deceitful,(BF) but only those whose names are written in the Lamb’s book of life.(BG)
Eden Restored
22 Then the angel showed me the river(BH) of the water of life,(BI) as clear as crystal,(BJ) flowing(BK) from the throne of God and of the Lamb 2 down the middle of the great street of the city. On each side of the river stood the tree of life,(BL) bearing twelve crops of fruit, yielding its fruit every month. And the leaves of the tree are for the healing of the nations.(BM) 3 No longer will there be any curse.(BN) The throne of God and of the Lamb will be in the city, and his servants will serve him.(BO) 4 They will see his face,(BP) and his name will be on their foreheads.(BQ) 5 There will be no more night.(BR) They will not need the light of a lamp or the light of the sun, for the Lord God will give them light.(BS) And they will reign for ever and ever.(BT)
John and the Angel
6 The angel said to me,(BU) “These words are trustworthy and true.(BV) The Lord, the God who inspires the prophets,(BW) sent his angel(BX) to show his servants the things that must soon take place.”
7 “Look, I am coming soon!(BY) Blessed(BZ) is the one who keeps the words of the prophecy written in this scroll.”(CA)
8 I, John, am the one who heard and saw these things.(CB) And when I had heard and seen them, I fell down to worship at the feet(CC) of the angel who had been showing them to me. 9 But he said to me, “Don’t do that! I am a fellow servant with you and with your fellow prophets and with all who keep the words of this scroll.(CD) Worship God!”(CE)
10 Then he told me, “Do not seal up(CF) the words of the prophecy of this scroll,(CG) because the time is near.(CH) 11 Let the one who does wrong continue to do wrong; let the vile person continue to be vile; let the one who does right continue to do right; and let the holy person continue to be holy.”(CI)
Epilogue: Invitation and Warning
12 “Look, I am coming soon!(CJ) My reward is with me,(CK) and I will give to each person according to what they have done.(CL) 13 I am the Alpha and the Omega,(CM) the First and the Last,(CN) the Beginning and the End.(CO)
14 “Blessed are those who wash their robes,(CP) that they may have the right to the tree of life(CQ) and may go through the gates(CR) into the city.(CS) 15 Outside(CT) are the dogs,(CU) those who practice magic arts, the sexually immoral, the murderers, the idolaters and everyone who loves and practices falsehood.
16 “I, Jesus,(CV) have sent my angel(CW) to give you[g] this testimony for the churches.(CX) I am the Root(CY) and the Offspring of David,(CZ) and the bright Morning Star.”(DA)
17 The Spirit(DB) and the bride(DC) say, “Come!” And let the one who hears say, “Come!” Let the one who is thirsty come; and let the one who wishes take the free gift of the water of life.(DD)
18 I warn everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this scroll:(DE) If anyone adds anything to them,(DF) God will add to that person the plagues described in this scroll.(DG) 19 And if anyone takes words away(DH) from this scroll of prophecy,(DI) God will take away from that person any share in the tree of life(DJ) and in the Holy City, which are described in this scroll.
20 He who testifies to these things(DK) says, “Yes, I am coming soon.”(DL)
Amen. Come, Lord Jesus.(DM)
21 The grace of the Lord Jesus be with God’s people.(DN) Amen.
