12 When you come to appear before me,
    who has asked this of you,(A)
    this trampling of my courts?
13 Stop bringing meaningless offerings!(B)
    Your incense(C) is detestable(D) to me.
New Moons,(E) Sabbaths and convocations(F)
    I cannot bear your worthless assemblies.
14 Your New Moon(G) feasts and your appointed festivals(H)
    I hate with all my being.(I)
They have become a burden to me;(J)
    I am weary(K) of bearing them.
15 When you spread out your hands(L) in prayer,
    I hide(M) my eyes from you;
even when you offer many prayers,
    I am not listening.(N)

Your hands(O) are full of blood!(P)

16 Wash(Q) and make yourselves clean.
    Take your evil deeds out of my sight;(R)
    stop doing wrong.(S)
17 Learn to do right;(T) seek justice.(U)
    Defend the oppressed.[a](V)
Take up the cause of the fatherless;(W)
    plead the case of the widow.(X)

38 As Jesus and his disciples were on their way, he came to a village where a woman named Martha(A) opened her home to him. 39 She had a sister called Mary,(B) who sat at the Lord’s feet(C) listening to what he said. 40 But Martha was distracted by all the preparations that had to be made. She came to him and asked, “Lord, don’t you care(D) that my sister has left me to do the work by myself? Tell her to help me!”

41 “Martha, Martha,” the Lord answered, “you are worried(E) and upset about many things, 42 but few things are needed—or indeed only one.[a](F) Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her.”
