Grieving over Jerusalem

³⁷ “^(A)Jerusalem, Jerusalem, who ^(B)kills the prophets and stones those who have been sent to her! How often I wanted to gather your children together, ^(C)the way a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, and you were unwilling. ³⁸ Behold, ^(D)your house is being left to you desolate! ³⁹ For I say to you, from now on you will not see Me until you say, ‘^(E)Blessed is the One who comes in the name of the Lord!’”

²⁴ and they will fall by ^(A)the edge of the sword, and will be led captive into all the nations; and ^(B)Jerusalem will be ^(C)trampled underfoot by the Gentiles until ^(D)the times of the Gentiles are fulfilled.

The Return of Christ

²⁵ “There will be ^[a]signs in the sun and moon and stars, and on the earth distress among nations, in perplexity at the roaring of the sea and the waves, ²⁶ people fainting from fear and the expectation of the things that are coming upon the ^[b]world; for the powers of ^[c]the heavens will be shaken. ²⁷ And ^(E)then they will see ^(F)the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory. ²⁸ But when these things begin to take place, straighten up and lift up your heads, because ^(G)your redemption is drawing near.”

²⁹ And He told them a parable: “Look at the fig tree and all the trees: ³⁰ as soon as they put forth leaves, you see for yourselves and ^(H)know that summer is now near. ³¹ So you too, when you see these things happening, ^[d]recognize that ^(I)the kingdom of God is near.

¹⁶ For I am not ^(A)ashamed of the gospel, for ^(B)it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the ^(C)Jew first and also to ^(D)the Greek.

^6 (A)who will repay each person according to his deeds: ⁷ to those who by ^(B)perseverance in doing good seek ^(C)glory, honor, and ^(D)immortality, He will give ^(E)eternal life; ⁸ but to those who are ^(F)self-serving and ^(G)do not obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness, He will give wrath and indignation. ⁹ There will be ^(H)tribulation and distress ^[a]for every soul of mankind who does evil, ^[b]for the Jew ^(I)first and also ^[c]for the Greek, ¹⁰ but ^(J)glory, honor, and peace to everyone who does what is good, to the Jew ^(K)first and also to the Greek.

All the World Guilty

3 Then what ^[a]advantage does the Jew have? Or what is the benefit of circumcision? ² Great in every respect. First, that ^(A)they were entrusted with the ^(B)actual words of God. ³ What then? If ^(C)some ^[b]did not believe, their ^[c]unbelief will not nullify the faithfulness of God, will it? ^4 [d](D)Far from it! Rather, God must prove to be true, though every person be found ^(E)a liar, as it is written:

^28 [a]For ^(A)we maintain that a person is justified by faith apart from works ^[b]of the Law. ²⁹ Or ^(B)is God the God of Jews only? Is He not the God of Gentiles also? Yes, of Gentiles also,

Deep Concern for Israel

9 ^(A)I am telling the truth in Christ, I am not lying; my conscience testifies with me in the Holy Spirit, ² that I have great sorrow and unceasing grief in my heart. ³ For ^(B)I could ^[a]wish that I myself were ^(C)accursed, separated from Christ for the sake of my countrymen, my kinsmen ^(D)according to the flesh, ⁴ who are ^(E)Israelites, to whom belongs ^(F)the adoption as sons and daughters, ^(G)the glory, ^(H)the covenants, ^(I)the giving of the Law, ^(J)the temple service, and ^(K)the promises; ⁵ whose are ^(L)the fathers, and ^(M)from whom is the ^[b]Christ according to the flesh, ^(N)who is over all, ^(O)God ^(P)blessed ^[c]forever. Amen.

⁶ But it is not as though ^(Q)the word of God has failed. ^(R)For they are not all Israel who are descended from Israel; ⁷ nor are they all children ^(S)because they are Abraham’s ^[d](T)descendants, but: “^[e](U)through Isaac your ^[f]descendants shall be named.” ⁸ That is, it is not the children of the flesh ^[g]who are ^(V)children of God, but the ^(W)children of the promise are regarded as ^[h](X)descendants.

The Word of Faith Brings Salvation

10 Brothers and sisters, my heart’s desire and my prayer to God for them is for their salvation. ² For I testify about them that they have ^(A)a zeal for God, but not in accordance with knowledge. ³ For not knowing about ^(B)God’s righteousness and ^(C)seeking to establish their own, they did not subject themselves to the righteousness of God. ⁴ For ^(D)Christ is the ^[a]end of the Law for righteousness to ^(E)everyone who believes.

²⁸ In relation to the gospel they are ^(A)enemies on your account, but in relation to God’s choice they are beloved ^(B)on account of the fathers; ²⁹ for the gifts and the ^(C)calling of God ^(D)are irrevocable.
