¹⁷ But they have no root; they are short-lived. When distress^(A) or persecution comes because of the word, they immediately fall away.^(B)

³⁰ who will not receive a hundred times^(A) more, now at this time^(B) —houses, brothers and sisters, mothers and children, and fields, with persecutions^(C) —and eternal life^(D) in the age to come.^(E)

Saul the Persecutor

8 Saul agreed with putting him to death.

On that day a severe persecution broke out against the church in Jerusalem, and all except the apostles were scattered throughout the land of Judea and Samaria.^(A)

⁵⁰ But the Jews incited the prominent God-fearing women and the leading men of the city. They stirred up persecution against Paul and Barnabas and expelled them from their district.^(A)

³⁵ Who can separate us from the love of Christ? Can affliction^(A) or distress or persecution^(B) or famine or nakedness or danger or sword?

¹⁰ So I take pleasure in weaknesses, insults, hardships, persecutions, and in difficulties, for the sake of Christ.^(A) For when I am weak, then I am strong.^(B)
