¹⁴ The Word^(A) became flesh^(B) and dwelt^[a] among us. We observed his glory,^(C) the glory as the one and only^(D) Son^[b] from the Father, full of grace and truth.

⁴² Jesus said to them, “If God were your Father, you would love me,^(A) because I came from God^(B) and I am here. For I didn’t come on my own, but he sent me.

² that life was revealed,^(A) and we have seen it and we testify and declare to you the eternal life that was with the Father and was revealed to us^(B)—

⁵ You know that he was revealed so that he might take away sins,^[a](A) and there is no sin in him.^(B)

⁸ The one who commits^[a] sin is of the devil, for the devil has sinned from the beginning. The Son of God^(A) was revealed^(B) for this purpose: to destroy the devil’s works.
