Paul Selects Timothy

16 Paul went on to Derbe and Lystra, where there was a disciple named Timothy,^(A) the son of a believing Jewish woman,^(B) but his father was a Greek.

¹⁸ I, Paul, am writing this greeting with my own hand. Remember my chains.^(A) Grace be with you.^[a](B)

² And we sent Timothy,^(A) our brother and God’s coworker^[a] in the gospel of Christ,^(B) to strengthen and encourage you concerning your faith,

⁷ Remember your leaders who have spoken God’s word to you. As you carefully observe the outcome of their lives, imitate their faith.^(A)

¹⁷ Obey your leaders^[a] and submit to them, since they keep watch^(A) over your souls as those who will give an account, so that they can do this with joy and not with grief, for that would be unprofitable for you.

¹² Through Silvanus,^[a](A) a faithful brother (as I consider him), I have written to you briefly in order to encourage you and to testify that this is the true grace of God. Stand firm in it!
