Skimming the Surface
Searching near the lakeshore, Janie spotted a good stone. It was round, flat, and smooth. “Did you find one?” called her brother, Seth. Janie ran back to the water’s edge. “Yeah. This one’s perfect!”
Seth held up his stone. “Great. Now, grab it like this. Then throw it side-handed, just above the water. Like this.” He threw his stone so that it hit the lake at a shallow angle. It skipped across the water.
“That’s so cool!” Janie said. “Let me try.” She threw her stone the same way. It hit the water and skipped several times, skimming over the lake. “You did it!” Seth said.
Skipping stones is fun. But don’t let it be a picture of your relationship with God. He wants you to love him much more deeply than that. Instead of skimming through the Bible, dive into God’s words. Rather than just singing along at church, worship God with all your heart. If you only think of God once in a while, keep reminding yourself that he’s always with you. Don’t be a skipping stone. Go deeper with God!
